Turning Around Low Performing Schools - RTTT Assurance Area E

In order to fully develop a robust and coherent system of education for the students of New York, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) must dramatically improve the State’s lowest-achieving schools and create new innovative education options for our students. To build upon these efforts, in December of 2009, the New York State Board of Regents approved a bold reform agenda focused on improving the lowest-achieving schools and creating excellent schools across the State that prepare all students for college and careers. The Race to the Top (RTTT) Program, provides the resources and supports to meet these aims. The policies, programs, and practices under RTTT assurance area E create the conditions and incentives that will lead to more opportunities for more students to attend high-performing schools, while focusing its accountability measures to turning around or closing the lowest-achieving schools.
